Is it too early?

Is it too early to complain,

about the recent lack of rain?

My spuds need liquid love.

Bob…

It is quite possible that the next ten illustrations posted on this visual blog could hold the title the new normal. Yet not even I (!) can tell you what the new normal looks like. Video meeting participants talking enthusiastically whilst on mute is definitely nothing new, there’s just a whole bunch more people at it.

So if you find yourself in a pointless meeting this week, I fully encourage you to put yourself on mute, and then talk in an animated fashion for as long as you possibly can. Then when finally you’re forced by others to unmute, simply say – “Oh – I was just saying that I agree…”

Created for issue #2 of The Visual Thinker.

Open Source Motivations

Have you ever contributed to an open source project? If so, what was your motivation?

My Co-op is working with Greenpeace International to help take their Planet4 project to the next level.

You can read all about it in this blog post – and let us know about your motivations in our very quick survey.

The Grieving process

I’ve had a few low-energy days over the last few weeks, that’s for sure. It feels like I’m making progress though, and actually finding bread flour for sale in a shop will absolutely make everything ok again, won’t it?

The new normal

Nothing has changed, yet everything has changed.

Work is quiet. I’m spending time with my family. We had a BBQ last night. I have a list of things to do. Some of them are even getting done.

Nothing has changed, yet everything has changed.

When * hits the fan

( * ) Coronavirus that is…

I don’t know about you, but I’m in the middle of my most productive unproductive spells ever. Whilst my Visual Thinkery work has all but dried up as the world tries to get back on an even keel, I’m knee-deep in the list of those other things I’ve put off for years, due to the freelancer’s motto: paid work comes first. If you find yourself in the same boat (and I get the feeling it is a VERY BIG boat) then let’s sail together ‘cross the sea of uncertainty knowing that at least we are not alone…

helloooer!

I doff my hat to the team that can turn a face-to-face conference into a meaningful online one. Having said that, the ALT/OER20 team are pretty well positioned to do just that!

Open Asynchronous Pedagogy

These are pretty weird times indeed. There’s lots of discussion around taking schools online, as we head further towards social lockdown. For most, that’s a new thing – but there are those that have been practising this art for a long time. And as ever, it’s not about the technology, but the pedagogy…

This is a visual remix of a graphic I created for the CESI conference, suggested by Mags Amond.

I can’t get no…

When I’m watchin’ my TV
And a man comes on to tell me
How clean my hands could be…

Hey, hey hey…

It’s not all about you…

…because it’s pretty hard to retrospectively change who you came into contact with five days ago.

So let’s look out for each other.
